What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a holistic system based on the principle “like cures like”. It treats the person rather than the disease.

It has the potential to help patients with a wide range of conditions both acute (e.g. bruising, cuts, coughs, sore throats, flu and colds etc) and chronic (e.g. chronic fatigue, menstrual and menopausal issues, migraine, digestive problems, stress related issues and insomnia).

Environmental factors and the the day to day stresses of everyday living can weaken our resistance to illness. Many people use homeopathy to support their body, minimising imbalance and the symptoms caused by the stresses of life and the environment.

Homeopathic treatment considers the causation of illness rather than just the symptoms themselves.  Holistic treatment means that the whole person is relevant to the selected remedy and the Homeopath seeks to connect mental and emotional symptoms as well as physical and general symptoms to find the best overall fit.

There are around 8,000 homeopathic remedies with more being “proved” all the time. (A “proving” is the process by which the symptoms a remedy can treat are established). To get the best results, remedies need to be matched accurately with symptoms and the tools to facilitate this (given the constantly evolving remedies available) are being developed at pace. The skill is finding the most appropriate remedy.

A good fit acts like a catalyst stimulating the body to move towards health. To achieve a good fit an in-depth consultation by an experienced Homeopath is required to gather and consider all relevant information and the growing list of potential remedies. Self-treatment for more acute conditions (coughs and colds etc) can be beneficial but troublesome or repeated acutes also benefit from the perspective of an experienced Homeopath.

If you would like to explore Homeopathy or are looking for a non toxic gentle healing system which does not have side effects, please get in touch for an intial (no obligation) chat to discuss whether this might be an appropriate treatment for you. It is a safe and gentle system of healing dating back more than 200 years and works by engaging the body’s innate healing response to restore health. It can be used as a sole method of healing or in conjunction with other methods.
